FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an alternative to disposable cameras at weddings?

YES! LensShare is a service that produces more pictures, at a higher quality, includes the digital originals and typically costs less than disposable cameras. Instead of handing out cheap disposable cameras, you invite your guests to bring their digital cameras to the wedding. After the ceremony, your nicely-dressed groomsmen, ushers, bridesmaids, etc travel the crowd with a little gizmo that allows them to collect copies of all those digital pictures and video clips. You send the boxes to us, we process the film (so to speak), and send you a DVD with all the pictures! It couldn't be simpler!

How much will disposable cameras cost me for a wedding?

There are 3 metrics that need to be considered when making any purchase. The upfront cost, the hidden cost and the benefit of the product. The up-front cost of the disposable camera is pretty low. A quick Google search shows that you can get 20 disposable cameras for about $50 (after shipping). The hidden cost is that those cameras need to be developed, walmart charged us $4.58 per camera this comes to $91.60 plus the upfront cost- your looking at spending $141. But the calculation doesn't stop there! Since those disposable cameras only hold 26 exposures, and assuming that your guests use ALL the film, return ALL the cameras and that you actually take them to get developed, you are going to get (at most) 520 pictures. The reality is every camera is going to have 10 or 15 exposures left, you being a frugal newlywed will not want to waste those exposures so you'll hold onto the cameras and probably lose or damage a couple before any get developed. After this is accounted for you will have around 400 photos- each one costing you about $.35 cents a piece. This will net you one physical copy of that photo.

How much will LensShare photos cost me for a wedding?

Since there are no hidden costs to lensshare we can easily derive the cost of a lensShare package. The cheapest one is $150. It provides two gizmos to your wedding party and holds practically an unlimited amount of photos. Lets say that you have 200 guests, and that among them are 50 digital cameras. The guests cameras can hold around 1,000 pictures each, but in reality they will probably shoot far less than that. Lets say they shoot 15 pictures before the wedding, 10 pictures during the wedding, and another 20 pictures after the wedding. Lets say that your wedding party is 90% effective at meeting with your guests. Your wedding party will, within the span of one hour, collect photos from 45 guests, totaling 2025 images. This costs you 7 cents per picture. If you opt for one of our photo enhancements the price per picture is still less than 9 cents per photo. And you have the digital originals, easily able to share them with family, guests, etc.

Who owns my pictures?

You do! 100% before during and after. We can't and don't check each picture to see if it's true or not. But we do require you to agree that you will only send us pictures that you have either taken yourself or have obtained ownership of legally. Also in the fine print is some grammar about LensShare having a Grant to your photos, this is because we retain a backup of all the pictures.
